Turning A Frown, Upside Down..

I got an unexpected call from Chris Livingston this morning. He was really excited to tell me about a new project he had been working on for several weeks prior.
A friend of his had unfortunately gone through a recent divorce, and had this huge house to himself. Some how the two of them decided to turn this unfortunate event into a chance to fullfill a skaters wildest dreams. I know I've dreamed of it ever since I saw the Suicidal Tendencies video, "Possessed To Skate". They decided to build an in-house bowl. Sick!!!
3' trannies, with an over-vert pocket, escalator with pool coping, all in the living room!!!

Who's The Boss?

I did a stint with California Skateparks, and let me tell ya',that was one of the worst experiences of my life.
You would think traveling and building skateparks is a dream job, but I have some news for you, working for a large corperate skatepark company is the worst. No creativity, dead spots, any input towards better obstacles become translated into ' a bad work ethic'. Can you beleive that? Making shit better is a bad work ethic?
A creative 'input' gets quickly turned into a clusterfuck of planning and ordinances, and small amounts of extra dinero that the company owner will have to forfit in order to make shit flow better.
Look at Goodyear, Az.The most often ridden obstacle was supposed to be a retaining wall. We fought like hell, but we got to put a 2 foot tranny in place of that stupid wall.
My best advice is to not have one of these large companies do your local park. Try to see if the city is down with DIY or volunteer work. That way you know every bit is going to what you're gonna' be riding for the next 20 years or so.

Ahwatukee

This is an old spot. Super rough with tons of rocks and glass, and sometimes the occasional condom. When we were kids, we used to ollie the channel on the bank. We thought that was super tough. Brandon Steed is doing the unimaginable at The Hell hole, clearing the sidewalk and into the street with a poppy kickflip.

The Wedge

The Wedge has alot of history here in Az. Many top rippers have come from here. It's an overpass that runs over a public park, that has a drainage bank to direct overfilling water back into the lake. It's never filled with water, and it offers sweet shade during those hot summer days. The rails pictured here were some of the first rails I've ever grinded. To see guys like Brandan Turner (pictured here) kill these rails really brings back some heavy memories.
They've added a really crappy skatepark since we were kids, but it is good to see that the younger generation is still attacking this spot as hard as we did in the eighties. Some spots are absolutely timeless!

Permission R.I.P.

We had a sick permission going on for a couple weeks up here in Portland, Oregon, and now its gone! Thanx to the dudes who let us ride!! Clay Hunt F/S air

Checking out Lincoln City's new 'crete with Andy Adams

Over view

The weather has gotten super good up here in the Pacific North West so it's time to check out all the kool new stuff going on around here. Last Friday we loaded up the "SAUCE Runner" and decided to hit the road to Lincoln City. This place has been growing for like 12 years or something and every time I go, there is a new bitch'n addition that resembles something straight out of a Dr. Seuss story book or rather, Red's wild imagination. This is a somewhat difficult place to photograph simply because you don't want to stop skating to pick up your camera! Andy asked to shoot a photo, and well, we shot a few demonstrating the uses of the new LC 'Crete. Thanx to Red and the crew for making our wildest dreams come true!!

Confessor

This is Mike "The Confessor". He's from Jersey and rips! He's been around our country numerous times and has shredded everything in his path right out of the car! His first runs are way better than most, even if he's never been to the spot before. A great fellow and a blast to skate with and his thick Jersey accent is just as fun. Right on Mike!

Wonderland, Oregon

Wonderland? Yes it is!! This is the new stuff up at Windells Snowboard/Skate camp built "Freestyle" by 3 dudes, Jamie Weller, Billy, and Peter Gunn over this winter and man is this fucking BITCH'n!!!! This is just part of the good shit going on there. There is an indoor barn full of neat stuff as well and the courtyard area that has a cement SICK track that flows through the trees. Oh man, it is heaven. If you thought Hood River was amazing, this place blows it away!!! There is a catch though, you gotta know the guys who built it to get in as it is a privately owned camp that is in operation a good part of the year, meaning, there are Kids everywhere!!! The off season is very short and at times is a gamble to skate due to the iffy weather. This is a great example of all the neat stuff going on in the North West. Too bad it rains way too much here and we hardly get to skate! hahaha

p.s. If you've got kids and they want to go to a camp, look up www.windells.com as this is a great place to drop the kids off for a few weeks in summer

My First Cover Photo!

McGnarly from Shrunken Head has a new zine out titled "Wet Nurse". Find one if you can. The cover photo is of Peter Gunn back-rocking a sick-ass seven footer in Beaverton that some bmxers had busted the coping out of. The joke will be after the jump.
Even though the pool itself ended up getting blown out, fun sessions were to be had while they lasted. Here are a couple of other photos from a day in Beavertron.

But first the cover

As it was originally saturated...

A blue-tiled Bobby Beandip

I probably could have titled this...

Peter Gunn Round Two...

But this spider would have been bummed

Peter Gunn front ollie

P.G. takes one for the team

If you have a Commissioner in your crew then you know he can carve a light

P.G. 13 jammy-jammy jams outta there

With a "Dangerous" ollie thrown in the mix

That's all folks! Find this gem.

first post.....am i doing this correctly? skate scenes

Well, I don't have the foggiest idea why Grandmaster Pod allows me to spread my ignunce with the good Sauce name, but.............................

The googler machine on this intrawebs is awesome when you have time to explore. I love the skateboard and the different scenes around the world. The skate scenes from Hammond, Louisiana to San Diego, California are unique. Every scene has its own crew, and we are all weird in some way. The internet allows us to look into the minds of skateboarders/skate scenes around the world. I was introduced to one of the Northwest scenes in 2004. I cannot get enough of the sleestak guys and gals. I don't care if you love them or hate them. You can find some funny stuff over at the forum. Funny pictures are my favorite things to find on the internet, and they have an awesome random picture thread at this time. Check it out if you get time. Was that too short? What are the blob rules when blobbing?????? oby

Red Rock skatepark.

Colby Carter took us to Red rock skatepark a couple years ago. I recently found these photos and want to go back! Its a few miles past Casa Grande in southern AZ in a Anthem community. Go there its super fun.

Found some old photos of Wrex Cook. What can i say that hasn't already been said about this guy! Always down to rip. Skates everything anytime. Will skate with any one who is genuine and down to have a good time regardless of skill level. Just all around utility player. When Wrex first returned to the valley a few years back my skating was stagnant and i was always using some excuse not to go for it. But through his training program in the stoke dojo i have been loving skating like i was a kid again thanks Wrex i owe you huge!!!
