I did a stint with California Skateparks, and let me tell ya',that was one of the worst experiences of my life.
You would think traveling and building skateparks is a dream job, but I have some news for you, working for a large corperate skatepark company is the worst. No creativity, dead spots, any input towards better obstacles become translated into ' a bad work ethic'. Can you beleive that? Making shit better is a bad work ethic?
A creative 'input' gets quickly turned into a clusterfuck of planning and ordinances, and small amounts of extra dinero that the company owner will have to forfit in order to make shit flow better.
Look at Goodyear, Az.The most often ridden obstacle was supposed to be a retaining wall. We fought like hell, but we got to put a 2 foot tranny in place of that stupid wall.
My best advice is to not have one of these large companies do your local park. Try to see if the city is down with DIY or volunteer work. That way you know every bit is going to what you're gonna' be riding for the next 20 years or so.
